16th Congress of the Balkan Military Medical Committee

Military Medical Academy recorded an increasingly intensive international cooperation over the past period through successful participation of its experts in expert conventions, including the recently held 16th Congress of the Balkan Military Medical Committee (BKVM) in Bucharest, Romania (June 01-05, 2011).
Member-countries – Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Turkey and our country, as well as Albania – took part in the work of the Congress, and Albania was accepted as full time member of the BKVM during the opening ceremony of the Congress.
Serbian delegation was lead by Brigadier General Doc. Dr Veljko Todorović, Chief of Military Health Care Administration, who signed the report on acceptance of Albania as full time member of BKVM on behalf of our country.
Among the delegates of our country, 21 of them, there were two cadets from the MMA Faculty of Medicine, who took part in the work of a special part of the Congress, dedicated to military medical cooperation of students from military medical faculties within the BKVM.
Work of the Congress developed through presentations of 243 papers, 118 oral expositions and 125 poster sessions. Four roundtables were organized on polytrauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, air force and underwater medicine and telemedicine.
A meeting of all chiefs of military medical services and military medical academies from member-countries of BKVM was held, and possibilities of each country were individually presented there in the domain of education and training, and potentials for joint cooperation and participation in multinational missions in cases of natural mass disasters or in peace operations. Our side at this meeting was represented by Brigadier General Doc. Dr Veljko Todorović and Colonel Professor Dr Đoko Maksić, who presented potentials and abilities of our Military Medical Service to the present parties, and presented the material on potentials for education and training of doctors and technicians of all profiled at MMA, and in regional training centers in Belgrade, Niš and Kruševac, to Chiefs of military medical services.
During the oral and poster presentations, two best papers from each country were presented.
At the closing ceremony of the Congress, Colonel Professor Dr Đoko Maksić took over the management over the Balkan Military Medical Committee over the next year as Chairman of the Serbian National Board (SNB), and he was presented with the symbol of BKVM. On behalf of the Ministry of Defense and Military Health Care Administration of the Republic of Serbia, Brigadier General Doc. Dr Veljko Todorović took over the obligation to organize the 17th BKVM Congress, planned for the second half of May of 2012 in Belgrade, with the obligation that all details in regards to this event are presented at the next Pre-Congress Meeting that will be held in Romania during February-March next year.
Two months before this meeting, SNB will deliver a list of main topics of the Congress, roundtables, meeting of cadets of military medical faculties in BKVM, and topics of meetings of chiefs of military medical services and military medical academies of member-countries of BKVM, to representatives of all national boards.
